Mexican pianist Mauricio Garza Salazar has developed a long-standing musical career of over more than 30 years, performing as a recitalist, chamber musician, orchestra soloist, master class teacher and piano competition judge on different continents.
He began his musical studies at the “Escuela Superior de Música y Danza” in his hometown, Monterrey, Nuevo Leon in Mexico and later moved to the city of Vienna, Austria, where he pursued a degree in instrumental pedagogy and concert performance at the Vienna Conservatory and at the University of Music and Performing Arts, respectively, obtaining his bachelor degree with honors. He also attended master classes by eminent artists such as Murray Perahia, Jean-Louis Steuermann, Jorge Federico Osorio, Andrzej Jasinski and Alexander Jenner, among others.
He has presented his music at numerous festivals and concerts in Mexico, Austria, Germany, Australia, China, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the United States of America, Canada and Spain. Some of the venues he has performed on are the "Australian Institute of Music" in Sydney, Australia, the "Freiman" concert hall in Ottawa, Canada, the “Horowitz Hall” at the Steinway & Sons house in Hamburg, the "Sendesaal" in Bremen , The Great Hall of the UTB in Brownsville, Texas, the Main Theater in Palencia, Spain, the National Palace Museum in Taipei, Hong Kong and the great concert hall of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in China.
Mexico has always played an important role in the development of his artistic career. In recent years, he was selected to participate at the the piano festival "Sala Beethoven", the piano festival "Isauro Martínez", the "Festival de Otoño, Tamaulipas" and the festival "San Pedro Artefest" in the Northeastern part of the country. The recital at the "Simón Bolívar" auditorium in the facilities of the UNAM university in Mexico City and his collaboration as a master class teacher at the University of Music in Zacatecas are also highlights of his career in Mexico.
He has worked as a jury member at the “Jugensmusziert” Piano competition in Germany on several occasions. The competition takes place nationwide and Garza Salazar was part of the jury that selected pianists during the 1st stage of the competition on its 51st. (2014), 57th. (2020) and 60th. (2023) editions.
Collaborations with symphony, philharmonic and chamber ensembles have taken place throughout the years. He has presented works by Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Beethoven and Mozart with the Acapulco Philharmonic Orchestra and the Camerata “San Juan Siglo XXI” of Matamoros in past years and more recently in 2022 with the Symphony Orchestra of the City of Puebla and the “Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León” Symphony Orchestra in Monterrey, working with Maestros Eduardo Álvarez, Orlando Mora, Jongwhi Vahk Park and Francisco Rettig.
Garza Salazar currently lives in Bremen, Germany, where he works as a musician and piano teacher at the "Musikschule Bremen".
